About Kairos Prison Ministry International
Kairos Prison ministries share Christ's love and forgiveness with
incarcerated individuals, their families and those who work with
them, and helps former prisoners become productive citizens.
Kairos Prison Ministry International, Inc., is the parent
organization of ministries addressing the spiritual needs of
incarcerated men, women and children, their families and those
who work in the prison environment. Kairos, which grew out of the
4th Day or Cursillo movement, is supported by volunteers from those
a separate ministry, Kairos has received the blessing and
encouragement of 4th Day movements such as the Catholic Cursillo, National
Episcopal Cursillo, Presbyterian Cursillo, Lutheran Via de Cristo,
The Upper Room's Walk To Emmaus, and independently ecumenical Tres
Dias. Kairos Prison Ministry is a ministry rather than a movement.
Kairos Prison Ministry International, Inc., began in North Florida in 1976 and
has spread to 34 states and nine countries including
Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Honduras,
Nicaragua, Peru, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
The Kairos method of talks, meditations, and individual and group
activities is an invitation to enter into a personal relationship
with the living Christ. Kairos not only helps Christ in saving
souls, but also puts human lives in service—literally to transform
bringing the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ into prison,
Kairos is widely recognized as a highly effective program to
positively change inmate attitudes.
The Three Arms of Kairos Prison Ministry
Kairos is one ministry composed of three programs:
serves incarcerated men and women living in prison.
reaches out to the women outside whose lives have been impacted by incarceration. Families “do time” right along with
relatives and friends.
Kairos Torch encourages young men and women to
share their life journey
and change behavior through participation in a long-term mentoring
